NAUI Scuba Diver: This is our first SCUBA certification course, for those who have never dove before.  By the end of the course, you will be comfortable with diving in the open ocean, and safely dealing with any common difficulties that could arise. We do not believe in weekend courses for beginning divers; this course consists of seven four-hour sessions, each including both lecture and pool time, over a period of 3 1/2 weeks, to be sure that you’ve achieved complete mastery of all basic scuba skills and are completely comfortable on your dives. This course requires a mask, snorkel, fins, and booties for the pool sessions, and complete SCUBA equipment for the certification weekend, which is available by rental through local dive shops.

We plan to do three dives a day with three required dives including navigation, night diving, and deep diving, and three elective dives, which may include diving in surf, diving for photos and video, boat diving, kayak diving, etc. We usually try to dive Metridium Field at San Carlos Beach (see the photos at www.metridium.com), Monastery Beach, Breakwater at night, and Outer Lovers. Students are required to study at home from the NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver textbook and pass a written examination. NAUI Scuba Rescue Diver and Advanced Scuba Rescue Diver: Become a better dive buddy! NAUI Rescue training prepares you to be a better responder in the event of a dive-related accident or emergency. What is the best way to get an unconscious or injured diver to the shore or boat, and then out of the water? How do you perform rescue breathing while in the water? How do you recognize stressed or underprepared divers in order to prevent accidents before they occur? After completing rescue training you’ll know the answers to these questions and many others. This course is a prerequisite for NAUI Leadership training including Divemaster and Assistant Instructor.
